Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider 1965 (C) Red
The beautiful Alfa Romeo 'Giulietta' series of cars were introduced at the Turin Motor Show in 1954 and almost 132,000 were built in the Portello factory in Milan between 1954 and 1965 and the Giulietta Spider, featuring convertible bodywork by Pininfarina made its debut in mid 1955. The engine and suspension in these cars owed much to Alfa's racing pedigree and the 1,290cc twin-cam four cylinder engine produced an impressive (at the time) 65bhp.
The Spider, Sprint and Sprint Speciale Giulia's introduced together with the new Giulia Saloon in 1962 were effectively re-badged and updated versions of the earlier Giulietta range and they now had a 1595cc Twin Cam Engine instead of the 1,290cc unit. This Engine produced 92bhp and was mated to a 5 Speed Gearbox. The new Giulia Spider is easily distinguished from the Giulietta as it features a bonnet bulge to clear the slightly taller 1.6 litre Engine.
This very rare Right Hand Drive Giulia Spider - Chassis: AR 383274 was manufactured in the Portello factory in Milan on 8th November 1963 and sent to Alfa Romeo UK in London in April 1965 and first registered on 26th May 1965.
It is one of only 401 RHD 101 series Spiders built and believed to be one of only a small number still in existence.
Finished in Alfa Red with a Black Interior, original rubber mats, faded Grey mohair Soft Top and fitted with an uprated 1750cc Engine with twin Weber Carburettors and a 5 speed Gearbox. It also comes with an extremely rare and desirable factory Hard Top in Black which has its numbered Pininfarina Plaque on the inside of the hood!
This car is a generally sound and useable example although a bit scruffy and certainly in need of cosmetic restoration. It has very recently had a new MOT and ?1,400 was spent on recommissioning it after a long period of storage.
There is a small history file with the car including invoices back to the 1990's but unfortunately no early history. However, it has only had 3 previous owners from new and there are invoices in the file from J C Quantrell & Sons in Norwich for a full Engine rebuild @ 77,700 miles in June 1998 (1,000 miles since) and also from Andrew Thorogood in 1998 & 1999 for various restoration works carried out for the previous lady owner.
The current recorded mileage is 78,650 but we cannot confirm this as genuine from new due to the lack of history!
These Giulia Spiders are rapidly increasing in value and restored LHD examples are now fetching well over ?40,000, so to be able to buy an extremely rare RHD example in this price bracket is a fantastic opportunity for someone!
