  • Autobianchi Bianchina Berlina 1969 (Historic Plate) Red

    Description

Founded as Bianchi in Abruzzi in 1885 by Edoardo Bianchi the company originally manufactured bicycles and then luxury cars until World War Two.
With the factory destroyed by war time bombing and Edoardo dying in 1946, manufacture of cars ceased but continued for bicycles, motorcycles and goods vehicles.

In 1955 Bianchi negotiated a return to car manufacture with partners Pirelli and the Fiat SpA Group and a new company 'Autobianchi' was formed. The new Autobianchi company began by assembling upmarket micro-cars using Fiat components and the Bianchina was launched in 1957 and placed above the Fiat 500 in the market place. Other Fiat-inspired models followed until 1968 when Bianchi sold its shares in Autobianchi to Fiat who kept the name alive until 1996.

The 'Bianchina' featured a completely new stylish body designed by Luigi Rapi and the first one rolled off the production lines in Desio, Italy in September 1957.

The car had many premium design and equipment features and was specifically marketed as a 'second car' for the emerging affluent middle-class Italian families and predominantly aimed at the women of the household.

Approximately 275,000 Bianchina's were produced between 1957 and its demise in 1969.

This lovely example was built in 1969 and according to factory records, it is one of the very last off the production line and it has been in the same Italian family ownership for the last 30 years.

It is finished in Red with a lovely original Black vinyl interior, Black carpets, 499cc Engine, 4 Speed Gearbox, original Chrome fittings and Steel wheels with Chrome Hub Caps.
It is in lovely condition and we are advised that it was repainted some 10 years ago in Turin. The speedometer is showing 39.960 kilometers, but we cannot confirm the actual mileage covered from new.

The car is in beautiful condition throughout and really is a joy to drive. It will be UK registered in the new owners name (if sold in the UK) and will come fully serviced with a new MOT and 6 months warranty.
