  • Citroen 2CV 1959 (Historic Plate) Blue

    Description

Citro?n 2cv AZ 1959, barn find, for restoration

Built in 1959, this car left the Levallois factory north of Paris originally in the now rather uncommon ?Gris Fonc?? grey. The car was first registered on 5th June 1959 a little more than a hundred kilometres away from the Levallois factory, in Rouen (within the Seine-Maritime region of Normandy, registration region ending in ?76? on the licence plate) and used in the region for 34 years, the last registered owner being a civil servant in Rouen who owned it for over 15 years. On 26th August 1987 the car was bought by a local Citro?n main dealer in Buchy, a little way outside Rouen, where it was displayed outside the dealership for 7 years, when in 1993 was sold and has since been dry stored in a local barn in Normandy for the last 18 years. At some point over the past 18 years of it?s storage it has been partially dismantled having its 425c.c. engine and gearbox removed and the body and chassis smothered in engine oil to prevent corrosion. It has lain undisturbed in the same barn ever since.

The car is mostly complete, although partially dismantled, with unseized engine and gearbox with centrifugal clutch (also known as the ?Trafficlutch? in the UK)

The body shell needs new floors, sills and toe board, as well as windscreen surround / bonnet hinge panel and fresh air vent flap, but rear wheelarches and boot floor look good. Chassis is solid with no accident damage, but the top skin needs replacing at the front, where an old floor repair panel was welded to it.

The car is sold with French registration papers, (carte grise, the equivalent of the UK V5) and is located in Normandy, near Dieppe in France. The buyer will need a trailer or car transporter to collect the car, and collection will be from Normandy, France (no delivery possible, sorry)

This would make an excellent restoration project for someone looking for an unmolested, original early 2CV and would look wonderful restored to its original grey paintwork. The car bears its original French registration number of 6826 HF 76, and is believed to have never been owned outside of the ?76? registration region of Seine-Maritime.
