Daimler SP 250 Dart 1961 (Private plate) Blue Dark
The Daimler SP250 was built between 1959 and 1964 and was originally named the 'Dart' when it was launched at the 1959 New York Motor Show. However Daimler were forced to drop the Dart name when threatened with legal action by Chrysler?s Dodge who owned the name and the car was renamed the Daimler SP250.
It has a Fibreglass body with a separate Chassis, four-wheel Girling Disc Brakes, 2.5-litre Hemi-head V8 Engine designed by Edward Turner and either a 4 Speed Manual Gearbox or optional Automatic Transmission. Thirty Black Daimler Darts with the Borg-Warner Model 8 3-speed Automatic Gearbox were used by the British Metropolitan Police.
This beautiful 'B' Spec example from 1961 is finished in Dark Blue with a Tan Interior, Black Mohair Soft Top by Brian Purves, Blue Tonneau Cover, original Steel Wheels with Chrome Hub Caps, Rack & Pinion Steering, rebuilt 2.5 Litre V8 'unleaded' Engine, 4 Speed Manaul Gearbox, Stainless Steel Exhaust, Stainless Steel Petrol Tank, Alternator Conversion and Kenlowe Electric Cooling Fan.
Purchased by the current owner in 1978 and always garaged over the last 35 years and regularly maintained by Phil Glenister of 'Autotec'!
The car was repainted last year along with re-chromed bumpers etc. and the Engine was rebuilt in 2000 at 90,000 miles and new 'unleaded' Cylinder Heads were fitted by Barry Thorne in 2011. The car has now covered approximately 107,000 miles from new and although not concourse, it is in beautiful condition throughout and drives superbly. The car also comes with its original factory Hard Top, but this will need renovation.
