This splendid concours restored example is the highly desirable ‘D’ model (the most sort after & collectable model in the classic Nuova 500 range) it has the very rare ‘suicide doors’, ‘round speedo’ & original matching numbers 110D engine. It can be converted to a full length convertible sunshine roof - ‘trasformabile’ if required - In fact it has it all!
It’s an original LHD Italian example built in 1962 in Turin & has come directly from Pescara, a beautiful port city on the Adriatic Sea & the capital of Central Italy’s Abruzzo region. Indeed the car was originally registered from new to Pescara & still wears the ‘PE’ registration prefix, so it’s fair to say it’s never travelled far!
We have just purchased this splendid little chap directly from its long term custodian Antonella who purchased it on 4th August 2006 & completed its full ‘nut & bolt’ concours restoration in 2017 at her local Italian sports car specialist. It is absolutely fantastic, dare I say perfect! It’s a testament to the quality & attention to detail on what appears a no expense spared basis. On Completion Antonella kept the little Fiat at her holiday home for runs down to the beach with her family in the summer months & has only covered 858 KM’s running it in.
We had seen this well restored example a few times as he uses it at local Club Fiat 500 events as a show car for the club.
We are told by Antonella that she spent over 15,000 Euros on the concours restoration (not including the vehicle in the first place) completing in March 2017. We only got the call from her a months ago, as the rising prices of good 500D’s are now close to the sum she had spent on the car.
This is the best & most correctly restored 500D we have ever offered & better than my own example – without exception. We believe it to be the best available worldwide & the only way to get a better one, would be to undertake a concours restoration to your own criteria which would cost you vastly in access of the asking price of this vehicle. The owner was a 500 enthusiast & her knowledge & understanding of the correct parts & original detailing is exceptional. It took us a while to acquire this vehicle for the correct price, but it was well worth the wait!
We have just completed this stunning vehicles first UK MOT which it naturally passed with no advisories & a glowing report from the tester, along with giving it a full service, just to be sure.
We will UK register it in the new owners name so they can be the first UK registered keeper if required.
This beautiful example is eminently usable as it has its original matching numbers rebuilt Fiat 110D 499cc engine with original rebuilt gearbox, it drives like new & as good as it looks!
Antonella entrusted this vehicle to her local specialist whom embarked on a full pain staking nut & bolt restoration to concours standard completing in 2017 under her watchful eye. Indeed there is a photograph album that accompanies the vehicle & tells the story – So no guess work here! Basically everything has been reconditioned or replaced correctly. So in brief: Complete strip to bare metal shell, the floors & cills were replaced with genuine panels & the works have been done to an exceptional standard. The car was fully & expertly rewired. The engine was fully rebuilt and the gear box also. The handbrake cable was changed, clutch replaced, steering box rebuilt, the petrol tank was fully refurbished and flushed. The interior was also fully and expertly retrimmed in tan / cream along with the complete door card set & all interior trim was renewed. All other items of interior trim were refurbished or replaced. All lights were overhauled & the correct aluminium surrounds were machine polished, all rubber items were replaced including the door seals, window & side window seals, new bushes fitted, new springs, shocks & mounts, complete brake system replacement, new starter motor and a new exhaust, in fact every mechanical item was either refurbished or correctly replaced with OEM parts.
The bumpers & brackets were replaced, the original steel wheels were fully shot blasted & refurbished with new period correct tyres fitted. The car was fully painted whilst stripped to bare shell (Inside, outside & underneath) at this time in the period shade of Fiat blue scuro that you see today. This includes the under side & wheel arches, so nothing is covered up & you can view for yourself the quality of the underside, which should last for another 57 years. In fact it looks as good underneath as it does on the top – Concours standard.
This truly impressive example is just showing 858 KM since the nut & bolt restoration!
Since being in our possession, we have been meticulous in our further preparation prior to offering this exceptional example to the market by undertaking the following works: Fitted a new Varta battery, chrome wing mirror, heat shield pad, adjusted the steering geometry, supplied a fresh MOT and conducted a multipoint check, replaced the fuel with £25 of new super unleaded, fitted a premium coil & given the cheeky little chap a full service (Oil, plugs, fuel filter, air filter etc) just to be sure! Fitted a 500 Key ring. ACI club sticker, it even has fitted a period luggage rack & period picnic hamper. The car is on the button & ready to go & show or just enjoy…
The vehicle comes with a history file & contains: Original Italian log book, Photographic album of restoration works conducted. Fresh current UK MOT, Specialist parts invoice from Ricambio International Ltd, Copious photos showing car in Pescara Italy…
The car looks as new & is no doubt better than when it left the factory in 1962. We believe it to be the best example worldwide for the price asked. It has been correctly restored by people who know the marquee. This is a collector’s opportunity and a superb investment & hence this cheeky chappy can now get UK registered, has a fresh MOT & is being offered for sale for the first time on our shores.
