  • Fiat 500 D Trasformabile 1963 (Historic Plate) Blue Light

    Description

    Fiat 500D ‘Trasformabile’ Classic / 1963 / LHD Italian / Low KM’s & Owners / Sympathetically Restored & Truly Exceptional! £16,750.

This example is truly one for the collector or true enthusiast, knowing these cars as we do; this one of the best I have ever come across in all respects. It is the highly desirable ‘D’ model (the most sort after & collectable model in the classic Nuova 500 range) has the very rare ‘suicide doors’, a full length convertible sunshine roof - ‘trasformabile’, ‘round speedo’ & original matching numbers 110D engine - In fact it has it all!

It’s a LHD Italian example originally from Terni, which is in the Southern portion of the region of Umbria in Central Italy. Fist registered in 1963 & there it has resided until being purchased by Gabriella Bartolini from Napoli in 1995. Latterly after a sympathetic Italian restoration it has been held in an Italian private collection, until recently being handpicked by a Maserati specialist. Purchased for export to our shores as part of their static display of Italian exotica (Ohh & the Fiat!). It’s one of the most original & factory correct examples that they had seen.

The Maserati specialist purchased it as a well restored example that had only been painted upon restoration to a typical Italian standard – Great from 10 feet! All the structure & floors appeared original & were finished in the body colour of light Marine Blue & everything seemed factory correct. It started & drove, but felt a bit mechanically tired, having been static in the collection.

Being a well-respected Italian car specialist they embarked on the rejuvenation of this restored example to UK standards, as this little car had all the original panels & motor & was just lacking some love to make mechanically perfect.

Copious photos were taken on arrival, which are now colour printed for the history file. So it was decided to return this example to its mechanical former glory on a no expense spared basis due to its outstanding pedigree & honesty.

So in brief: The Maserati specialist & his chosen partners conducted a full check over, replaced the coil, leads, cap, rotor arm, points, plugs & fuel pump. Rebuilt the Webber carb. Replaced the steering arm & all steering dust covers, drag link, replaced all shocks, bushes & removed, repaired, flushed & refitted the petrol tank.
Cleaned & adjusted the front & rear brakes, fitted a new exhaust valve, replaced the front wheel bearings & replaced the brake hoses & bled the system. Rebuilt the cylinder head & fitted new push rod tubes, gaskets & consumables. The labour cost of the above was £671.60 at trade rates. They fitted a new premium Varta battery. Fitted a new clutch set at £210.00 On total around £1,537 was spent all at trade rates to get this time warp example running & feeling factory fresh. The Maserati Garage set about full UK registration & gaining a UK MOT which it got first time with no advisories.

The paintwork was left untouched, but that’s where we came in!

After a period in the Maserati Garages static display, this cheeky little chappie was sold & we were the privileged new owner.

We were not particularly struck by the Italian repaint as mentioned, so once in our possession, we have been meticulous in our further preparation prior to offering this exceptional example to the market by undertaking the following works: Conducted a full external, glass out repaint to show standards. We have conducted this work to our usual high standards & the car presents better than new & is in the original correct factory colour.

Fitted a new grey mohair long sunroof & frame, with associated hold back clips & leather belt. So the new colour combination of the hood & body colour works perfectly & is most desirable. New white wall spats are fitted along with 4 new hub caps, nuts & washers to the excellent wheels. Fitted the correct D engine decal set, Italian number plate holder, spare tyre strap, jack straps, wheel brace, engine cover plate, boot mat, chrome wing mirror, windscreen wiper blades, sun visors, heat shield pad & supplied a fresh MOT and conducted a multipoint check, added £25 of new super unleaded. Fitted a 500 Key ring. The bumpers & brackets were also machine polished. Fitted an over mat set, ACI club sticker, it even has fitted a period luggage rack & period picnic hamper. The works were completed to a high standard. In fact it looks as good underneath as it does on the top, as the underside is also finished in light marine blue.
The car is on the button & ready to go & show or just enjoy…

This is one of the best & most correctly ‘sympathetically’ restored 500D’s we have offered & is as good as my own example. It retains its key all original panels & metalwork, aluminium trim, motor etc, yet now sympathetically restored & repainted, with its original body coloured underside looks fantastic. Our knowledge & understanding along with that of the Maserati specialist of the correct parts & original detailing is clear to see. It took 55 years for this vehicle to come to the UK market, but it was well worth the wait!

This vehicle is fully UK registered & comes with a fresh, clean UK MOT certificate naturally with no advisories.

This beautiful example is eminently usable as it has its original matching numbers 479cc engine with original gearbox, it drives & as good as it looks & is showing just 79,570 KM, but only nominal test mileage since the works noted above.

The vehicle comes with a lovely history file & contains: Italin Centro Storico Fiat letter of authenticity, Fiat Classiche Certificato Di Origine, PRA Automobile Club D’ Italia document, Italian Taxation booklet, Italian ACI Meie Assicratrice & Italian tax slips, UK V5C, Past UK MOT, Fresh current UK MOT, Invoices along with Specialist parts invoices from Ricambio International Ltd, Copious photos showing car as purchased. Pictures of before, during & after the works here in our London workshop…

Fiat Blu Chiaro Marino 486 ( Light Marine Blue) paintwork with a recent blue & cream interior, including matching door cards & a new grey full length mohair convertible sunshine roof made by our trimmer, with strap to hold back & associated belt & clips.

    Fresh MOT with NO advisories.

    Free historic road tax.

Keys on Italian 500 key ring, correct original 500D jack with brace & spare wheel with tyre.

Fully refurbished Fiat steel wheels, with the correct hub caps & all shod with good quality matching tyres & new white wall spats.

Period boot rack with wicker hamper basket for 4 persons.

The car looks as new & is no doubt as good as when it left the factory in 1963. The paint work will be better! It’s probably one of the best examples in Europe for the price asked. It has been sympathetically restored by people who know the marquee. This is a collector’s opportunity and a superb investment & is being offered for sale for the first time on our shores.

These models are ever increasing in value & are a great investment. Our Fiats come recommended by a leading authority on Fiats & parts specialists – Ricambio International Ltd. I actually have a light blue 1964 500D that makes up part of my own private collection & every body loves it! It always puts a smile on my face, plus you don’t need to worry about the rising petrol prices – Just enjoy!

As we are a Mercedes Pagoda and R107 specialist we are always happy to part exchange one of these type of cars or indeed any classic car of excellent quality, so please don’t miss this most fastidious example of the iconic Fiat 500D. This vehicle is exceptional value, try & find another as original & tax exempt – Please remember ‘you get what you pay for’. Our cars are hand picked by a marquee expert & we turn down 8 or 9 out of every 10 cars offered. The cars we sell, are we believe the best of their type & are here to be viewed & driven in the UK. This takes the gamble out of buying a car direct from Europe sight unseen. Our stock comes fully de-registered from the country of origin with the ACI fee paid, UK MOT’d, test driven, serviced & detailed. Don’t confuse them with other cars on the internet which have had dubious restorations & are offered with a low asking price. We have had 2 clients bring such cars to us recently bought direct from Italy & both were severe MOT failures with a list of faults ranging from no reverse gear to an undercarriage that requires total replacement. You have been warned! There is always a reason why a car is being sold cheaply! Again ‘you get what you pay for’…

This vehicle is we believe the best in Europe don’t settle and ensure you view this stunning example…

More photos available upon request, PX always considered.

Can be viewed at any reasonable time by prior appointment.
We will always buy back cars we have previously sold…

Delivery by road, or packed and shipped all possible by arrangement at excellent rates, car is ready to drive away today or be delivered to your door…

We are always keen to purchase Mercedes Benz Pagoda’s (W113) or late 300SL (R107) models, so please give us a call for a friendly chat if you are considering selling, we would love to hear from you. We also hold many parts in stock for the above models & have our own restoration facilities, where we restore these glorious old Mercedes to Stuttgart factory standards.
