  • Fiat 500 D Trasformabile 1964 (Historic Plate) Green Light

    Description

    Fiat 500D ‘Trasformabile’ Classic / 1964 / LHD Italian – Exceptional Restored Condition! £16,995

This highly desirable ‘D’ model (the most sort after & collectable model in the classic Nuova 500 range) has the very rare ‘suicide doors’, a full length convertible sunshine roof - ‘trasformabile’, ‘round speedo’ & the original matching numbers motor & correct gear box ( both rebuilt) - In fact it has it all!

It’s an original LHD Italian example & in truly exceptional condition. It has only had 3 Italian owners from new & 1 UK owner that we sold it to in October 2015 & comes with the original Italian blue Libretto!

It was manufactured in 1964 at the Fiat factory in Turin. First sold to Aldo Anticoli in Latina & registered LT 69459. Latina is the capital of the province of Latina in the Lazio region in Central Italy & just south of Roma. Then passing through a local second owner before being purchased by a Fiat 500 club member Stefano Carboni on 6th February 2001 from Roma, where it resided until out purchase.

The vehicle was lightly restored to a very high standard by Stefano whom having owed the vehicle for 18 years & now 48 years of age himself, always promised himself that he would restore an original 500D model. He undertook the project as an item ticked off his bucket list & some pictures are in the history file of the car striped down with the shell painted.

We are told over 8,000 Euros has been spent on the light restoration at his local Italian sports car specialist. That does not include the price he paid for the car in the first place either! It it’s a real testament to the quality & attention to detail that he craved & received on a no expense spared basis, but keeping the originality of this fantastic example.

This is one of the best & original lightly restored 500D’s we have ever offered & as good as my own example. It looks & feels original & as Stefano intended. He was a 500 enthusiast, his knowledge & understanding of the correct parts & original detailing is exceptional. It took us time to acquire this vehicle, but it was well worth the wait!
Amusingly when we transported it to our workshop, it arrived on a transporter with a couple of Ferraris & other assorted Italian cars, including a period tractor!

This beautiful example is eminently usable as it has the original, but fully rebuilt Fiat 499cc engine with rebuilt gearbox, it drives like new & as good as it looks!

Stefano entrusted this vehicle to the local specialist whom embarked on a light restoration to near concours standard in late 2011/12 under his watchful eye. Basically every thing has been reconditioned or replaced correctly. So in brief: Complete strip to bare shell, the structure & floors were found to be excellent, so no new floor pans were required. The engine was freshly rebuilt to factory standards. The handbrake cable was changed, clutch replaced, all pedals changed, the petrol tank was fully refurbished and flushed. The interior was also fully and expertly retrimmed in green / cream along with the complete door card set & all interior trim was renewed, most other items of interior trim were refurbished or replaced. The correct aluminium surrounds were machine polished & all rubber items were replaced as required. All mechanical items was either refurbished or replaced as required, but keeping all original parts where possible.

The bumpers & brackets were replaced, fully shot blasted & refurbished original Fiat steel wheels, The car was fully painted whilst stripped to bare shell (Inside & out) at this time in the original factory colour of Verde Chiaro (262) – Pastel green that you see today.

This truly impressive example is just showing 25K KMs & only a nominal mileage since the restoration!

Since being in our possession the first time around (September 2015), we were meticulous in our preparation prior to offering this exceptional example to the market for the first time by undertaking the following works: Removed & had a recon gear box fitted by our preferred specialist, fitted a new clutch, new exhaust & gaskets, front & rear wheel cylinders. Fitted a new long sunroof in grey, sunroof hood clips & correct strap, fitted the correct D engine decal set, new front boot mat, ash tray, 2No. Cream sun visors, 2No. wiper blades & chrome wiper arms, spare wheel strap, air filter pipe joints, washer bag & pump set, gear stick gaiter, adjusted the steering geometry, fitted a new Bosch battery, new hub caps, new heating ducts, new premium coil, heatshield pad, wing mirrors, fitted white wall spats, supplied a fresh MOT and conducted a multipoint check. Replaced the fuel with £25 of new super unleaded, replaced the carb, set the timing, replaced & cleaned the brakes, fitted new inner & outer drive shaft boots, & gave the cheeky little chap a full service, just to be sure! We applied a thin coat of Wurth spray gun applied underseal to the underbody. Fitted a 500 Key ring, ACI club sticker, it even has fitted a period luggage rack & period picnic hamper.

The vehicle has also now had a new wiper mechanism, 2No. door seals. Flasher relay, hand accelerator cable, king pin repair kit, wheel bolts, rear wheel bearing kit front & rear, fuel pump, gear lever, column indicator stalk. Ignition service kit, thermostat, drive shaft spring, chrome wiper arms, accelerator pedal, rubber & cable. We have also just completed a minor service & PDI check. It’s fair to say this is one cherished automobile.

We also completed this stunning vehicles first UK MOT & it has 2 further since then, but is now UK MOT exempt. We also fully UK registered the vehicle & it shows only 1 current owner on the UK V5C.

The vehicle comes with a great history file including: UK V5C, original Italian blue libretto / log book, ACI Certificato Di Proprieta, 3No. UK MOT certificates, UK NOVA certificate, DVLA new number plate certificate & associated paperwork, copious specialist parts invoices from Ricambio International Ltd & Motobambino Ltd totalling over £2,000. Copious photos showing car in Italy at Stefano’s place & during the restoration.

Fiat Verde Chiaro (262) – Pastel green paintwork with a new green / cream interior, including matching door cards & a new grey full length convertible sunshine roof, with matching 500D belt to hold back & associated clips.

    UK MOT exempt.

    Free historic road tax.

Keys on Fiat key ring, correct original 500D tool kit, jack & refurbished spare wheel with new tyre.

Fiat steel wheels finished in silver, with new hub caps & bolts, all shod with matching tyres & white wall spats.

Period boot rack with wicker hamper basket for 4 persons.

These models are ever increasing in value & are a great investment. Our Fiats come recommended by a leading authority on Fiats & parts specialists – Ricambio International Ltd. I actually have a light blue 1965 500D that makes up part of my own private collection & everybody loves it! It always puts a smile on my face, plus you don’t need to worry about the rising petrol prices – Just enjoy!

As we are a Mercedes Pagoda and R107 specialist we are always happy to part exchange one of these type of cars or indeed any classic car of excellent quality, so please don’t miss this most fastidious example of the iconic Fiat 500D. This vehicle is exceptional value, try & find another as original & tax exempt – Please remember ‘you get what you pay for’. Our cars are handpicked by a marquee expert & we turn down 8 or 9 out of every 10 cars offered. The cars we sell, are we believe the best of their type & are here to be viewed & driven in the UK. This takes the gamble out of buying a car direct from Europe sight unseen. Our stock comes fully de-registered from the country of origin with the ACI fee paid, UK MOT’d, test driven, serviced & detailed. Don’t confuse them with other cars on the internet which have had dubious restorations & are offered with a low asking price. We have had 2 clients bring such cars to us recently bought direct from Italy & both were severe MOT failures with a list of faults ranging from no reverse gear to an undercarriage that requires total replacement. You have been warned! There is always a reason why a car is being sold cheaply! Again ‘you get what you pay for’…

This vehicle is we believe the best in Europe don’t settle and ensure you view this stunning example…

More photos available upon request, PX always considered.

Can be viewed at any reasonable time by prior appointment.
We will always buy back cars we have previously sold…

Delivery by road, or packed and shipped, or air freight all possible by arrangement at excellent rates, car is ready to drive away today or be delivered to your door…

We are always keen to purchase Mercedes Benz Pagoda’s (W113) or late 300SL (R107) models, so please give us a call for a friendly chat if you are considering selling, we would love to hear from you. We also hold many parts in stock for the above models & have our own restoration facilities, where we restore these glorious old Mercedes to Stuttgart factory standards.
