Jaguar E Type S2 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe 1970 (H) Old English White
The Jaguar Series 2 4.2 E-Type was produced from 1969 to 1971 and can be identified by their open headlights that no longer have glass covers, a wrap-around rear bumper, re-positioned and larger front indicators moved under the heavier bumpers and the tail lights were also moved below the rear bumper.
The cooling is much improved helped by the enlarged ‘mouth' at the front, twin electric cooling fans and uprated brakes. The engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam covers to a ribbed appearance yet the original triple SU carburettors remain. The interior and dashboard were also redesigned, with flick switches being substituted by rocker switches to meet U.S regulations.
This lovely Series 2 E Type 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe is a 'matching numbers' car - Chassis No: 1R20866 and Engine No: 7R127249 and was first registered in Boston, Lincolnshire on 1st July 1970. It is finished in Old English White with a French Blue Leather interior, 4.2 Litre S6 Engine, 4 Speed Manual Gearbox and Chrome Wire Wheels.
The car was purchased by the current owner in 2010 after it had been in dry storage in Suffolk for almost 12 years and it was given to specialist Bennicks Motors Ltd in Bury St Edmunds in June 2011 for restoration and re-commissioning which was carried out over a 4 year period.
The body was completely stripped to bare metal and new front wings were fitted to the bonnet, all rust was removed from the bodyshell and it was treated, primed and repainted. The underside was fully waxoyled and all rubber seals were replaced along with new bonnet beadings, new sill seals, new front and rear screen rubbers, new rear chrome bumpers, new lights, new Headlining, new Carpet set, new bonnet hinges and a new gas struts fitted to the bonnet.
In addition to the body restoration, the car also had the following mechanical works carried out:
Complete rebuild of SU Carburettors
New Clutch including a new Master Cylinder and Slave Cylinder
New Brake Master Cylinder and pipes
New front & rear Brake Discs and Pads including overhaul of Brake Calipers
New flexi Brake hoses all round
Overhaul of Handbrake mechanism + new pads
New suspension bushes, new Anti-Roll Bar and Radius Arm bushes
New wheel Bearing Kit
New Chrome Wire Wheels with new Avon Tyres
New Ignition System including new HT leads, Plugs, Points, Condenser & Ignition Coil
New Horns, new Battery and a new Fuel Pump.
All of this work added up to just under £20,000 and the car was finished in October 2015. The mileage on the car at the time of the restoration was 98,171 and in the last 3.5 years since it has only covered just under 1,000 miles and a believed genuine 99,108 miles from new, although this cannot be guaranteed as there is unfortunately no early history with the car to prove.
The car has had 5 former keepers since new and is clear on all HPi Registers with no discrepancy showing on the National Mileage Register.
This Jaguar E-Type is not a Concours contender, but it really is in very good condition throughout and drives beautifully and it is worthy of serious consideration from someone who appreciates the driving experience offered by these wonderful cars as well as its investment potential.
Upon sale the car will be given a pre-delivery Service and new MOT and it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty which can be extended and upgraded at additional cost if required.
