  • Jaguar XK150 SE DROPHEAD COUPE 1958 (Historic Plate) Red

    Description

Making its appearance in the spring of 1957, the XK150 was to prove a worthy successor to the outgoing XK140 and although retaining the basic well-established XK styling, the most obvious differences were the wider body and one-piece Windscreen + Dunlop Disc Brakes all round and the 210bhp engine, previously only available as a special equipment option.

By the time XK150 production had ceased with the advent of the E-Type, a total of only 9,395 cars had been built in Roadster, Drophead and Fixed Head Coupe versions.

According to Jaguar's factory records this Jaguar XK150 SE DHC was built on 19th August 1958 and was dispatched to Jaguar Distributor Henlys in London on 15th September 1958 and registered as VXM 500. It is a 'matching numbers' car - Chassis No: S827194DN although the original Engine was replaced with a new 3.8 litre Engine by Jaguar in November 1960 and this is recorded on the Jaguar Heritage Certificate. It is finished in the beautiful Carmen Red with a Biscuit Leather interior, Black mohair Soft Top with a Beige headlining, Burgundy carpets with rubber Over-mats, Power Steering and Chrome Wire Wheels.

The car had a full mechanical rebuild by Jaguar specialist Ken Bell in the late 1980's and Jaguar specialist Martin Smith Ltd of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire completed a 'body-off' chassis rebuild in the early 1990's. Over £32,000 was spent on these works and there are supporting invoices and some photographs.

Since then, the car has only covered a total of 11,000 miles and a further £35,000 has been spent on upgrades including a Getrag 5 Speed Gearbox, uprated Disc Brakes, Suspension, Stainless Steel Exhaust System, Stainless Steel Wire Wheels, a complete new Leather interior with wool carpets, a custom made Hood & Hood Cover and all chrome-work either replaced or re-chromed. It also has 'Brantz' Trip-Meter and a 'Tracker' and comes with an Indoor ‘fitted’ car cover, Exterior Car Cover and custom made fitted luggage.

Always garaged in a controlled environment since the initial rebuild, we have MOT'd and serviced the car for the last 7 years and know it very well. This really is a stunning example which is exceptionally nice to drive and will undoubtedly make a good investment.
