Mercedes-Benz 350 SL 1981 (V) Grey
This original right-hand R107 series Mercedes 350SL is a ‘matching numbers’ car and was first registered in the UK on 5th January 1981. It is finished in its original colour of Anthracite Grey metallic with a beautiful Beige Leather interior and Beige carpets and has its original 3499cc V8 Engine, 3 Speed Automatic Transmission, Power Assisted Steering, Electric Windows, Black Mohair Soft Top, Factory Hard Top, factory fitted Air Conditioning
(which blows ice cold), Becker Stereo/CD player and Mercedes 15” Flat Face Alloy Wheels with matching Michelin Tyres.
The car was resprayed white in the 1990s, when it was still wearing its first registration number of ‘GIB 314’ and it was acquired by the current owner in 2008 when he was in the UK, and it was subsequently re-registered as YNH 899W. The car was exported in early 2009 to his home country of Cyprus where it was registered and was then treated to a two-year ground-up restoration using all original Mercedes-Benz panels and parts and it was returned to its original colour of Anthracite Grey metallic (172). The interior is all new and was sourced by classic specialist Aldridge Trimming in the West Midlands and all of the chrome trim on the car was replaced along with new rubber seals on the windows, doors, hard top and soft top and the boot rubbers were also replaced during the restoration. The original hardtop was also attended to during the restoration and remains in wonderful condition. The car has a very smart black mohair soft top, which fits snugly and has no rips or tears in the material and the restoration was finally finished in early 2012.
A fully detailed inventory and huge photographic record is available showing all the Mercedes Benz body parts used as well as an invoice for just over €29,000 for the main part of the restoration.
The car was enjoyed in Cyprus for 4 years bearing the registration number ‘432A’ with a FIVA historic passport and it was a regular entrant to local classic car shows. The owner returned to the UK in 2016 and brought the car back with him and it was re-registered here on 10th July 2016 with its current plate HHU 618V.
The last scheduled service was carried out in March 2018 by renowned SL specialist Roger Edwards Motors in Amersham. This consisted of an engine oil and filter service with the renewal of the spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor arm and air filter. Track rod ends were also replaced along with the rear brake discs and pads and a new rear exhaust box. Only 382 miles have been covered since this work!
Over the last 12 years, the owner has enjoyed 5,600 miles behind the wheel since the restoration was completed and the car has now covered a believed genuine 131,518 miles from new.
This is a superb example of the ‘Classic’ Mercedes 107 series and really does need to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated.
Upon sale the car will come with a new MOT and our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty. It is now 40 years old, so Road Tax exempt!
