Morgan Plus 8 1970 (H) Blue Dark
This stunning Morgan +8 Moss Box Chassis No: R7225 and Engine No: 414002420C is one of only 150 Moss Box cars produced and was built by the Morgan Motor Company in May 1970 and despatched to Morgan dealers Life’s Motors of Southport, Lancashire and registered on 7th May 1970.
The car has a very interesting history and was exported to its first owner in the United Arab Emirates and remained there for 11 years before being purchased by a Mr Bernard Storey who worked for a local Oil Company in Sharjah, UAE in November 1981. The car was not in great shape having suffered damage from the climate and sand, so he sent it back to the UK to be restored and commissioned well known Morgan restorer Colin Musgrove of CMA in Kenilworth to carry out the works.
The car had a complete rebuild including a new Chassis and Body panels, new wiring loom, instruments and suspension components and as the engine also required a rebuild, a fully rebuilt engine to the exact specifications as the original and built by CMA was installed. The Moss Gearbox was rebuilt by John Smith and although originally Flame Red when new, Mr Storey wanted it repainted in Jaguar Midnight Blue with matching Red Leather trim and weather equipment which it still retains today. There is a publication called the "Sands of Time" by Colin Musgrove all about this car and its restoration which makes very interesting reading!
Upon completion of the restoration the car was re-registered here on 6th August 1985 but neither Mr Bernard Storey nor the car were seen again by Mr Musgrove. The car was sold and exported to Norway, only to reappear here again in 2005 when it went to renowned Morgan specialist Billy Bellinger of JB Sports Engineering for a gearbox rebuild on behalf of its Norwegian owner.
It was purchased by the current owner in March 2015 from Morgan specialist Roger Davies of Harpers in Watford and during his 5 years of ownership he has spent just over £31,000 on the car (not including the purchase price) and including a newly rebuilt John Eales V8 Engine producing 264bhp in April 2016, full suspension upgrade, new Brakes including brake and clutch hydraulics, new Radiator and Header Tank, Fuel System, new Red Leather bucket seats + harnesses, Sports Exhaust System, Avon tyres and many more parts which are too numerous to list here plus routine servicing - all works by Billy Bellinger + last service in September 2020.
The car has a recorded mileage of 64,107 miles, but only 12,000 miles on the rebuilt John Eales engine!
It is finished in Jaguar Midnight Blue with Red quilted Leather bucket seats with Racing Harnesses - its original 'as new' Red Connolly Hide leather seats and Seat Belts come with the car- full Everflex weather Equipment including Side screens, Tonneau Cover, Roll-Over Bar, wiring for Brantz Trip meter, 3.5 Litre V8 264bhp Engine (the original V8 engine comes with the car), 4 Speed Moss Gearbox, fitted Fire Extinguisher and sitting on its original 15" Alloy Wheels with Avon Tyres. There is also a storm cover and a comprehensive set of spares.
The car was Regularity winner in the Britannia Cup in 2015 and first in class in the Three Castles Classic Trial in 2016 as well as being taken on a number of European tours. The car also has a British Historic Vehicle Clubs FIVA ID Card.
This really is a superb car in every respect, is in excellent condition throughout and really wonderful to drive. Upon sale the car will come with a new MOT and pre-sales service and our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty which can be extended and upgraded at additional cost if required.
