    Morris Mini – Minor Super Delux Mk 1 Classic 1962 / RHD UK Car / Nut & Bolt Restoration - Exceptional Condition & Value! £17,750

    This splendid example is the highly desirable Mk 1 Morris Mini - Minor Super Delux fitted with the original matching numbers 850cc motor. It was built on 5th October 1962 & comes with the original 3 letter, 3 digit number plate which was valued at £3,000 by Registration Transfers last year. The number originates from the Dundee area where the car was first registered & resided until circa 6 years ago with the V5C showing 2 previous keepers.

    It was fully restored in 2012 under the watchful eye of its knowledgeable & doting owner. Indeed this labour of love cost the owner in excess of £25,000 we are reliably told. So the sales price in our opinion is a bargain!

    The current owner, with famous actress wife, whom resides in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, next to the beautiful & tranquil Bushy Park & a short meander from the Thames, purchased the vehicle on 22nd December 2014 , (surely a fabulous Christmas present) from the well respected JM Classics in Edinburgh. Indeed the purchase invoice & sales advert is still in the history file along with the transport document. JM Classics wrote in the advert & I quote ‘Fully restored at a cost of in excess of £25,000, better than when it left the factory! A rare opportunity to buy such a high quality restoration.’

    We would certainly concur & this stunning example has certainly been well cared for & cherished in the intervening 8 years.

    It is in an absolutely fantastic, fully restored condition & a testament to the quality & attention to detail on what was a no expense spared basis. Indeed we have had the car up on our ramps to do a full assessment of what has been done, so we can state fact, not fiction. Unfortunately the car does not have any photographic evidence of the works, only a long hand written list which is not complete from JM Classics. Hence our forensic examination of the vehicle, so we could be sure of what we are selling. If you know your Minis or are an expert in classic cars then you will concur, as the high quality of the work is clear to see.

    The restoration was conducted during 2012 & consisted in brief: Complete strip to bare shell. New complete floor sections, both Sills, front wings, outer rear wings, front panel, boot floor panel were replaced with new panels. This metal work was to a very high professional standard.

    The original motor was also fitted with hardened seat valves & thus is now suitable for unleaded fuel & we have done a compression test & can confirm the motor is in rude health. The gearbox appears rebuilt & serviced, although we have not opened it up. The petrol tank was fully refurbished. The interior was also fully replaced with the period correct design, products & materials. A new set of carpets were fitted, including the boot. Even the door pocket bin liners were replaced correctly all matching & period correct of course. The roof lining was replaced. All lights were replaced, rubber items were all replaced including the door seals, window & side window seals etc. The complete brake system was replaced. The starter motor was rebuilt and a new exhaust fitted. A new battery was fitted, all consumables in the engine bay were also changed.

    The bumpers & brackets were replaced along with external badges & number plates, the original steel wheels were fully refurbished & fitted with new premium period correct tyres. The car was fully painted whilst stripped to the bare metal shell (Inside, outside, underside, boot void & engine bay) at this time in the original colour of Smoke Grey BU15 – My all time favourite Mini colour. It is so period correct & suits the car beautifully. The underside which is exceptional & in the body colour was treated to a sensible light coat of stone chip, which should last for another 58 years. In fact it looks as good underneath as it does on the top. All cavities seem to have been wax oiled to aid longevity.

    The handwritten JM Classics list which does not cover the body restoration or paint & interior fit out notes the following parts were fitted: Rear suspension rubber springs x2, Fuel pump, Radius arms, Rear wheel bearings x2, Rear wheel cylinders x2, Rear brake shoes, both sides, Rear flexi brake hoses x2. Rear knuckle joint kits x2, Handbrake cable, Complete engine gasket set, Cam followers x8, Cam shaft x2, Rear dampers x2, Front tie rods & bushes, Front swivel joint kits, Front flexi brake hoses x2, Front brake shoes x2, Front wheel cylinders x2, Front lower arm pins & bushes, Front upper arm pivot bearing kits, Front suspension rubber springs x2, Track rod ends x2, Front dampers x2, C.V Boots outer x2, Brake pipe kit x1, Front top suspension arm bump stops x4, Wiring loom x1, Clutch kit x1, Brake master cylinder x1, Clutch master cylinder x1, Clutch slave cylinder x1, Water pump x1, Timing chain x1, Engine mounts x2, Rear sub frame mounting bushes x8, Rear brake back plates, Rear crank seal, Engine water hose kit, Fan belt, Oil filter cap, Rear lamp assemblies complete, Front indicators, Number plate lamp, Clutch flexi hose, Door handles, Boot handle, Washer sets, Moustache, Surround end piece RHS & LHS, Extension piece clips, Window screen seal, Rear window seal, Rear window ¼ seals. Window channel lower door, Channel retainer chrome RHS & LHS, Boot lid seal, Oil filter, Spark plugs, Distributor cap, Plug leads, Points. Condenser, Coil, Petrol locking cap, Rear view mirror, Headlining, Front bumper chrome, back bumper chrome, Side strips, Handbrake handle, Door pulls, Battery cover & strap. They also note that it is upgraded to run on unleaded fuel.

    The current owner also attended to some further detailing, along with regular servicing invoices, he fitted: A new battery, battery straps & cover, bonnet catch rubber, front headlamp halogen upgrade kit, door pocket mouldings, bonnet prop rubber, number plate chrome surround, handbrake grip, door pull cables, chrome ashtray, distributor cap, boot board, pedal rubbers, vented petrol cap, bumper kit etc.

    This beautiful example is eminently usable & has indeed travelled a very low number of careful miles since its restoration.

    Since being in our possession, we have been meticulous in our further preparation prior to offering this exceptional example to the market by undertaking the following works: Fitted a new headlining kit, New chrome side trims, Premium battery, New quality period correct plates, Fuel sender unit gasket, Period correct premium fuel pump, Rear brake cylinder, Washer bottle, Decal kit, Rad cap, Conducted a multipoint check, Filled the tank with £25 of new super unleaded. We have also given this incredible car a 3M machine polish & the full Swissvaz treatment. The owner insisted on giving the Mini a full service prior to our collection, We have fitted new NGK plugs, Antifreeze flush & refill along with a new rocker cover gasket. The car is on the button & ready to go & show or just enjoy…

    The vehicle comes with a history file & contains: UK V5C, Past old style V5C showing Mrs Strachan of Dundee was custodian, V112, 14 invoices, JM Classics handwritten list, Current MOT & 7 Past MOT’s, Previous purchase details & advert, Owners research, Original BMC Morris Mini-Minor drivers handbook, Original BMS sales brochure – Fantastic!, Original press cuttings from 26th August 1959 showing original BMC adverts & model details – Great days prior to the internet!

    The car looks resplendent & is a real testament to the quality of work undertaken & drives superbly. It’s probably one of the best examples in Europe for the price asked.

    Model History:
    In August 1959 the Morris Mini Minor and the Austin Seven were launched. It wasn’t until 1961 that the car was renamed the Austin Mini, and eight years after that Mini became a marque in its own right. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis, it was a design that broke the mould, with its transverse-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and incredibly compact dimensions. It revolutionised the small car and became the best-selling British car in history, with a production run of 5.3 million units. Production ran until 2000.
    In between, the Mini underwent numerous changes of name and engine, and detail upgrades were made to its exterior design. Different body styles were created too, but its fundamental character and layout were unchanged and it was the “standard” two-door model that had the most timeless appeal: the final model that rolled off the production line in 2000 didn’t look that different to the original 1959 car.
    These models are ever increasing in value & are a great investment.
