Pininfarina 124 Spider Europa 1985 (B) Burgundy
The Fiat 124 Spider was launched at the 1966 Turin Motor Show and was designed by Tom Tjaarda who worked for Pininfarina and also designed some of the most beautiful Ferraris of the time. It had various upgrades during its life including 5 different twin cam engines culminating with the Fiat 2000 Spider in 1982.
Pininfarina took over full production of the Spider from Fiat in 1983 and it was and still is the only car ever to have been solely made by them in its entirety. It was relaunched in Europe at the 1983 Geneva Motor Show as the Pininfarina Spider Europa and in 1984, USA models were badged as the Pininfarina 'Azzurra' to honour Italy’s racing yacht entry into the Louis Vuitton Cup.
There were many small but significant changes to the Fiat 124 Spider with the most visible being the exterior door mirrors mounted in the glass 1/4 lights and the side emblems changed from the ‘f’ symbol to the Pininfarina script. It came standard with Leather trim, Air Con in USA models, a new vertical centre console design integral with the dashboard and incorporating a pair of fresh air vents, better instrumentation, new 14" (8 spoke) cast Alloy Wheels, new carpets, better boot space with the Battery now located inside and the Jack placement improved. In addition the little back seats of the Fiats were removed providing a useful luggage shelf and lockable storage units underneath.
Standard equipment were electric windows, remote electric boot opener, 1995cc Fuel injected engine producing 104bhp, Five Speed Manual Gearbox, Disc Brakes on all 4 wheels and Rack and Pinion Steering on the very last run of cars.
The very last cars were known as 1985.5 models (1986 MY) and less than 1200 cars were made world wide making it the rarest 124 Spider produced.
This Pininfarina 124 Spider Europa - Chassis No: ZFR124DS005511793 is a European Specification car and is the 147th from the end of production in late 1985. It was first registered in Luxembourg in November 1985 and was a One owner car there before being imported and registered here in the UK in October 2001 and it has only had one former keeper in the UK since with the current owner having purchased the car in June 2012.
Finished in its original colour of Rosso Rubino (Burgundy) Metallic with a lovely Tan Leather interior, Tan vinyl Soft top and brown carpets this car has all of the features and specifications as described above. It has now covered a believed genuine 89,300 Kilometers (55,489 miles) from new and comes with its original Spider Europa Handbook, a Brooklands Workshop Manual, invoices, MOT certificates and its MOT history since 2006.
The car is in overall lovely condition with no rust evident, but the paintwork could certainly be better as it has become a little flat and there are a few marks around the body, but nothing too drastic! The Interior trim is in really nice condition as is the roof and the lovely 2.0 Litre Twin Cam Engine, 5 Speed Gearbox and Rack & Pinion Steering do make these cars lovely to drive. It had a new Clutch fitted @ 85,803 Kms back in 2013, so only 3,497 Kms (2,172 miles) covered since then.
Our asking price does reflect the fact that the paintwork could be better, but if you can find a fully restored Pininfarina Spider Europa, you will expect to pay at least £25-30K for one, so our car does represent very good value at this price!
Upon sale, the car will come with a new MOT, Cam Belt Service and our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty.
Car on display @ our showrooms in Mortlake, SW London.
