Renault 4CV 1961 (Private plate) Blue
On the 4CV's launch it was nicknamed "La motte de beurre" (the lump of butter) due to the combination of its shape and the fact that early deliveries all used surplus paint from the German Army vehicles of Rommel's Afrika Korps which were Sand Yellow! Later it was known affectionately as the "Quatre Pattes" (four paws).
The first 4CV left Renault's Billancourt production lines in 1947 and broke all sales records in April 1954 when the 500,000th 4CV was assembled. Six years on, the total had risen to 1,105,547 units and a record for a French vehicle. This beautiful and completely rebuilt example was first registered in France on 3rd January 1961 where it remained until being sold in June 1979 to a Mr Steven Taylor who brought the car over to London. It was used on French plates for a few years before being registered in the UK on 11th April 1984 and eventually taken off the road in 1990 and put into storage. In 2004 upon recommendation from the Renault Classic Car Club, Mr Taylor commissioned FB Coachworks in East Molesey to carry out a complete restoration of the car and this was finally completed in March 2005 at a cost of almost ?8,000 including additional parts supplied by the owner for the restoration.
It was delivered to Mr Taylor who was now living in Jersey and used by him on the island for 3 years or so before being purchased by Mr Gino Bellanca who was the owner of FB Coachworks who completed the restoration. The car is finished in a lovely light Metallic Blue with Grey & Red vinyl seats, Black rubber floor matting, original Jaeger instrumentation, new headlining, all new exterior chrome, original 760cc 4 cylinder Engine, 3 Speed Manual Gearbox, refurbished wheels with new Firestone Tyres and a fully detailed Engine Bay. Since the restoration was completed the car has only covered 1,303 Kilometers (800 miles) and it is still in near Concours condition.
It really must be seen and driven to fully appreciate the quality of the restoration carried out on this car!
