Triumph Stag MK2 1975 (P) Yellow
Produced from 1970 to 1977 the Triumph Stag was envisioned as a luxury sports car designed to compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz SL class models. All Stags were four seat convertibles powered by a 3.0 litre Triumph V8 engine with twin Stromberg carburettors and a choice of either Manual or Automatic Transmissions. Very advanced for the era, at launch the car had Power Assisted Steering, Independent Suspension, Servo Assisted Disc/Drum Brakes and Electric Windows. Only 17,819 cars were sold in the UK and there were various model changes throughout its production. It would have been a tremendous success if British Leyland had fitted the Rover V8 Engine instead of the new Triumph V8 which unfortunately had a number of problems from the start and modifications introduced later in production were just too late to save the model before it was axed in 1977.
This beautiful MK2 Triumph Stag was supplied new by British Leyland dealer Westons of Kew and first registered to a Mr B G Nixon of Twickenham on 1st December 1975.
It is finished in its original colour scheme of Mimosa Yellow with Black Ambla trim, Black Mohair Soft Top & factory Hard Top and has its original Triumph 3.0 V8 Engine, 4 Speed Manual Gearbox with Overdrive, Power Steering, Electric Windows, Cat 2 Immobiliser, its original and reconditioned (Vintage Wireless) Radiomobile Car Radio, original Tool kit, Stainless Steel Exhaust and its original refurbished Alloy Wheels.
Only One previous owner from new and for whom we sold the car to the current owner in August 1999, it has every single piece of its original sales literature including the British Leyland 'Supercover' leaflets and rear view mirror hanger, its original Triumph Vinyl Wallet containing a fully stamped 'Passport to Service' booklet, Drivers Handbook, Triumph Stag Sales Brochures, original Radiomobile instruction manual, CAT 2 Immobiliser Certificate and a spare set of keys.
It was serviced, maintained and MOT'd every year by Weston's of Kew from 1975 until 1989 when they closed and all 28 of their invoices are contained in the history file. After their demise Mr Nixon did use the VW Audi dealership that took over the premises for a couple of years, but then took the car to the renowned Triumph Stag specialist Hart Racing in 1991 and Tony Hart continued to service the car until 1999 and anything that required repair or replacing or modifying was carried out by him and there are 18 of his invoices in the file! He did carry out the Cylinder Head modifications and 'unleaded' conversion in September 1998 @ 98,036 miles and a new Clutch was also fitted at this time.
Mr Nixon did have some bodywork carried out by Causer Cars in Twickenham in April 1997 and this included repainting the majority of the car, but no parts or panels were replaced, as it was purely for cosmetic reasons and the invoice for this is naturally also in the history file. It has every single MOT certificate from 1985 onwards but also invoices from Westons of Kew for the previous MOT's from its first one in 1978.
After we sold the car to the current owner in August 1999, he has used a local garage to him to look after the car and he did have a head gasket issue in 2002 when the cylinder heads were removed and re-skimmed and refitted with a modified head gasket at a mileage of 102,238 miles. He also had both front and rear bumpers re-chromed in 2002, but other than that he really has had very little else to do to the car apart from routine servicing and MOT's and a few replacement parts including a new Alternator in 2015.
This car is in simply stunning condition throughout and has all its original panels and has never had any welding or major body repairs carried out. The interior is also all original apart from the carpets and the condition of the interior is simply exceptional. It has always been garaged throughout its life by both owners and it has now covered 108,650 miles from new, but only 500 miles in the last 5 years!
Since we sold this car in 1999, we have of course had a number of 'restored' examples through our showrooms, but to find a car like this and with this history and documentation is almost impossible!
The car was MOT'd on 14th October 2017 with 'no advisories', but upon sale we will be giving the car our own pre-sales service and it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty that can be extended and upgraded at additional cost if required.
It really does need to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated!
