Triumph TR6 1971 (K) Burgundy
According to the BMIHT Heritage Certificate, this LHD 1971 Triumph TR6 - Chassis No: CC/67474-L was built on 13th July 1971 and was registered on 1st August 1971 with the Coventry registration mark AHP 307K as a Personal Export Delivery car before being despatched on 10th September 1971 to British Leyland Motors in Newark, New Jersey, USA.
When the car was built, it was finished in Damson with a Black interior and Black Soft Top and the following factory options are shown on the Heritage Certificate: Heater, Laminated Windscreen, Black Tonneau Cover, USA/Canada specification lights, 185 x 15 Goodyear Tyres, Anti-Smog Engine, Jack, Tool Kit Roll and Spare Wheel.
The car was registered in the USA in 1971 with the Californian number 187 VML, but nothing is known of its early history in the USA and it was sold by its owner in Rialto, California in April 1990 to dealer Burnells of Rothwell, West Yorkshire and imported to the UK.
The car had never been re-registered here since it arrived from the USA and we have just registered it back on its original Coventry number plate AHP 307K. We are unsure as to what work has been carried out on the car over the last 30 years, but its original USA spec Engine and Gearbox have been replaced with an excellent 'CR' prefix 125 bhp Fuel injected Engine and Overdrive Gearbox which we believe were installed here in the UK when it first arrived.
The mileage on the speedometer is showing 87,955 which could be its original mileage from new (not on this engine and gearbox), but we are unable to confirm this without its early history from the USA.
We have just re-commissioned the car after it having been retrieved in storage for many years and we have fitted a brand new Black Vinyl Soft Top, Mazda MX5 Seats as the original Triumph seats have a few tears in the vinyl, but they will come with the car if required, new Rear Brakes drums, shoes and wheel cylinders and 4 x new Yokohama 195 x 65 x 15 Tyres.
The car was given to Triumph TR specialist Enginuity in West London for additional recommissioning works and they have installed a new 'Unleaded' Fuel injection Metering unit, Fuel Filter, Fuel pump, Prop-shaft UJ's, Crankshaft thrust washers and a new Brake Master Cylinder. and a full service. it also had a new MOT although MOT exempt of course.
In total, we have spent just over £3,000 on recommissioning the car and it is a 'rust free' Californian car, as the photo's of the chassis and underside show and overall a very nice example which drives beautifully.
It can only really be criticised for a few paint blemishes and micro blistering in a few areas and some pitting in the chrome on the rear bumper, but overall it is very presentable and a small amount of paint rectification would make it perfect!
Being a LHD car it will be perfect for some continental touring when we are allowed to go or of course ideal for a European buyer.
Upon sale it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required.
Car on display @ our showrooms in Mortlake.
