About this Mercedes-Benz W123
SOLD
The Mercedes-Benz 230 CE is a classic luxury coupé that has stood the test of time with its sleek design and impressive technical specifications and reliability and it was the last range of cars that are generally referred to as being 'over-engineered' and built to a standard that has never been equalled since. Built between 1975 and 1986, they were offered as a Saloon, Coupe or Estate with both Petrol and Diesel engine options available, and either a 4 Speed Manual Gearbox or 4 Speed Automatic Gearbox and later an optional 5 Speed Manual Gearbox as well.
They were very innovative for their time and Anti-lock braking was offered as an option from as early as August 1980 and risk-adverse drivers could order their new Mercedes with an Airbag from 1982. The cars also featured a retractable steering column, power steering and servo-assisted disc brakes and it was renowned for being a safe and reliable vehicle that well-heeled drivers were confident to put their families in. Almost 100,000 W123 Coupes were built in total during the eight-year production run and the 230CE was a really successful and sought-after variant of the W123 series and the buying public loved them.
This beautiful and totally original 'Time-Warp' Mercedes W123 230 CE Coupe - Chassis No: WDB1232432A138664 and Engine No: 10298020155107 is a 'Matching Numbers' car with its original 2299cc 4 cylinder Fuel injected Engine and special order 4 Speed Manual Gearbox and it was ordered by a Mr R Rutter directly from Mercedes Benz in Abu Dhabi, where he was working at the time, and for him to collect from the Mercedes Benz factory in Sindelfingen, Germany where it was built. It was first registered for him by Mercedes Benz in Sindelfingen, Germany in April 1984 and he subsequently collected the car and drove it back to his home in Hampton, Middlesex.
It was still on its German number plates when it had its first service by Mercedes Benz dealer Woking Motors on 18th May 1984 @ 1,100 miles and was not registered here in his name until 1st August 1985 with the registration number A637 XGK. Mr Rutter kept the car for 38 years before we sold it for him to the current collector owner in August 2023, but since his purchase of the car, it has not been driven more than 100 miles, and due to a change in his circumstances, he has reluctantly given it back to us to sell on his behalf.
It is finished in the lovely Petrol Blue Metallic with a Beige cloth interior and has an Electric Sun Roof, Electric Windows, a Clarion Stereo, Power Steering and sitting on its original Mexican Hat 14" Alloy Wheels with a set of good Toyo Tyres. It has only covered a genuine and very low 64,400 Miles from new and has its original paintwork and interior, has never had any welding, and is totally rust-free with excellent chromework and the underside/chassis is waxoyled and is equally as clean and rust free as can be seen in our photographs. Despite some fading on the top of the rear seat squab and rear parcel shelf, it is in overall excellent condition considering its age, and we have rarely had any cars like this in for sale in our 35 years of selling cars.
It comes with a huge box file of invoices and paperwork including its original Sales Brochure, all invoices from its first one by Woking Motors in 1984, all MOT certificates from its first one in 1987, its original Mercedes plastic wallet containing its fully stamped service book and drivers manual, original Mercedes Benz Data Card, a vehicle log listing all works and services, its original Mercedes tools, an unused spare wheel with its original Michelin XVS tyre still fitted and 2 sets of keys!
The car is clear on all HPi registers including the National Mileage Register and upon sale, it will come with a new MOT and our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty. It is not ULEZ exempt at the moment, but it will be eligible for Historic Vehicle status from April 2025.
Car on display @ our showrooms in Mortlake, SW London.
