About this Triumph TR6
The Triumph TR6 was officially introduced in January 1969 with a body design by German stylist Karmann and it evolved by route of the Michelotti-styled TR4 and TR5 and retained the smooth fuel-injected 2.5-litre six cylinder engine from the TR5 + the independent rear suspension setup from both. It all sat in a body shell reworked on a tight budget by Karmann, with an effectively only the front and rear receiving a face-lift and with the centre section (tub) being unchanged.
A total of 94,619 TR6's were built with the bulk being LHD versions for the USA and Europe and only 8,370 RHD cars found homes in the UK before production ended in July 1976.
According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, this lovely Triumph TR6 125bhp - Chassis No: CR/499-O and Engine No: CR/438-HE is an original UK RHD 'matching numbers' car and was built in Coventry on 12th December 1972. It was despatched to British Leyland dealer Hartwells of Banbury, Oxfordshire on 15th February 1973 and subsequently sold by them to its first owner, a Mr L Bullimore from Warwick and was registered on 3rd April 1973 with the number plate MAC 680L which it still retains today.
It is finished in its original colour scheme of Pimento Red with a Black Vinyl interior, Black carpets and Black Mohair Soft Top, its original 2498cc Fi Engine, 4 Speed Gearbox with Overdrive on 3rd & 4th gears and sitting on its original 15" Steel Wheels and it has a 'Tracker' fitted.
The car was purchased by Waldeck Bodyshop in Feltham, Middlesex in July 2007 and they undertook a full bare metal repaint of the car which also included some new body & trim parts and some mechanical works. It was only completed in late 2010 when it was given to Triumph TR specialist Enginuity in Acton for the engine to be set up and tuned and they ended up buying the car from them and completed any outstandings works.
Enginuity subsequently sold the car to the current owner (5th in total from new) on 21st February 2011 with the mileage on the car being recorded as 68,675 miles.
During the following couple of months, they fitted a new set of leather Classic Seats, replaced the Clutch, fitted a new Retro Classic Radio and speakers, rebuilt the Engine completely in April 2011 @ 78,453 miles, fitted a new 'lagged' exhaust manifold - over £7,000 in total, fitted new polyurethane bushes to the suspension including rear trailing arms, and the owner purchased a few trim parts from the TR shop himself and in 2016 when he was considering selling the car through us, we replaced both front and rear bumpers.
It was maintained and serviced regularly by Enginuity over the following 10 years and in May 2017 they fitted their own Electronic Fuel Injection System costing £6,000 and in November 2019 they fitted new outriggers, repaired both front and rear valences, repaired the floor panels, and repainted as required and carried out lots of other works all coming to £13,632.
It was last MOT'd in August 2021 by Enginuity @ 86,829 miles, but since then it has not been driven very much and has now covered a total of 88,279 miles from new!
It comes with a huge history file including its original Triumph Passport to Service Book, Heritage Certificate, original Handbook lots of MOT certificates and all invoices for parts and works carried out.
This car really is in exceptional condition throughout and drives beautifully and really does need to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated.
