About this MG MGA
The MGA was produced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) from 1955 until 1962 and made its debut at the Frankfurt Motors Show in September 1955. The MGA was complete styling change from the earlier pre-war designed MG T-series cars which it replaced and a total of 101,081 units were produced before production ceased in July 1962 when it was replaced with the MGB.
The vast majority of MGA's were exported and most to the USA with only 5,869 RHD cars of all variants sold on the home market.
This MGA 1500 - Chassis No: HMD23/39520 and Engine No: 15MC-N-H-9604 was according to the BMIHT Heritage certificate, built in Abingdon between the 2nd - 10th October 1957 and originally as a Coupe and was exported to South Africa on 11th October 1957 where it was sold and first registered on 1st January 1958.
The car has remained in South Africa all its life and the last owner bought the car in 2017 and commenced a complete rebuild of the car using a fully galvanised chassis and a fully restored 'Roadster' body-shell and it was only completed in early 2020 we are told. It is finished in the lovely period MGA colour of Dove Grey with new Red leather trim, new Black/Grey carpets, its original Steering Wheel, new Red Vinyl Tonneau Cover, new Black Vinyl Hood (never been fitted), Chrome Luggage Rack and new 14" Steel Wheels Chrome Hub Caps.
The car has its original and rebuilt 1489cc Engine with a 4 Speed Manual Gearbox, new Drum Brakes on all 4 Wheels, new Aluminium Radiator, Electric Cooling Fan, all new wiring looms, new Brakes and ancillaries, new suspension, new wooden floors, a new exhaust system, new Chrome-work, refurbished Steel Wheels with new Michelin Tyres and much more. We are also informed that the car has covered less than 1,000 miles since the rebuild was completed in late 2019.
The condition of this car is pretty close to that of any Concourse car we have seen and it really does need be seen and driven to be fully appreciated.
We have just obtained UK registration with the DVLA and it has been issued with the period number plate 937 XVW and upon sale the car will be given a pre-sales service and a new MOT (although now exempt) and it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty.
Car on display @ our showrooms in Mortlake, SW London.
