About this Triumph TR6
DEPOSIT TAKEN - 03/05/2023
The Triumph TR6 was officially introduced in January 1969 and styling was by Karmann of Germany. Triumph Motor Cars had a limited budget for the development of the TR6, and while the TR6 looked drastically different from the previous Michelotti styled TR4 and TR5, it had the same chassis, the TR5 2.5 Fi Engine engine, running gear, doors, windshield, and much of the body tub were taken directly from the TR250/TR5 models. The last TR6 was produced on the 20th of July of 1976. The Triumph TR6 evolved by route of the Michelotti-styled TR4 including the TR4A’s independent rear suspension, then taking over the short-lived TR5/TR250’s smooth fuel-injected 2.5-litre six cylinder engine. It all sat in a body shell reworked on a tight budget by Karmann, with an effective nose and tail face-lift; the centre section was unchanged. The TR6 isn’t the finest-handling sports car of its era, but many claim that it’s faster than an E-type on the wiggly bits and a total of 94,619 TR6's were built 8,370 RHD cars finding homes in the UK before production ended in July 1976.
According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, this lovely Triumph TR6 125bhp - Chassis No: CR/6248-O and Engine No: CR/4114-HE is an original UK RHD 'matching number's' car and was built in Coventry on 29th July 1974 and subsequently sold by Triumph dealer Dutton Forshaw in Blackpool and registered as JHG 11N to its first owner in Preston, Lancashire on 1st April 1975.
It is finished in its original colour scheme of Triumph White with a Black interior and Black Soft top and the Heritage Certificate confirms it came with the following factory options: Overdrive Gearbox, Black Tonneau Cover, Static Seat Belts, Head Rests on Seats and a set of Michelin XAS Tyres. It has all of these features but it now has a relatively new Black Mohair Soft Top fitted plus a set of the beautiful Revolution Alloy Wheels with 185/65/R15 Dunlop Sport Tyres fitted and these really do compliment the TR6 and look fabulous.
The car has had 8 former keepers in its 49 year life with the current owner having purchased the car from TR GB Ltd 15 years ago in July 2008. There is history dating back to the late 1990's, but during his 15 years of ownership he has completely restored the car and there is a breakdown of all his expenditure on the car totalling £24,393 and all invoices for parts and restoration works carried out by both TR specialist Enginuity in London and Ferrari specialist DK Engineering in Chorleywood are contained in the history file.
Apart from body and trim works undertaken, the car has had a complete mechanical rebuild with the Engine and Gearbox both having been fully rebuilt at a mileage of 71,192 miles in December 2019 and the car has now covered a genuine 74,316 miles from new and only 3,100 miles since the engine rebuild.
The owner has driven just over 10,000 miles in the car during his 15 years of ownership and has been on many trips both here and abroad, but has now decided it is time to pass it on to a new owner to love and enjoy.
The car is in genuinely fantastic condition throughout and really is an excellent driving car with the many upgrades that it has been given.Although this car is MOT exempt, upon sale we will obtain a new MOT and pre-sales service and it will come with our own 6 Month Mechanical Warranty which can be upgraded and extended at additional cost if required. It is also ULEZ exempt due to its Historic taxation class.
An excellent example and if you are in the market for a TR6, this should certainly be a serious contender.
